Notes on testing Claude Code, OpenCode, Factory Droid, Copilot CLI, and Pi in search of a loop I could trust overnight.
Hey, I'm Josh.
Engineer by trade, endlessly curious by nature — I build things, break things, and write about what I learn along the way.
20+ years building and maintaining production software across web, data, automation, and support operations. Currently working with Go, Kafka, Kubernetes, Postgres, Prometheus, and Grafana while continuing to ship pragmatic Cloudflare projects and spec-driven AI-assisted development workflows.

Projects
Fully automated ETF holdings tracker. A scheduled Worker fetches a daily CSV, writes structured data to D1, stores the raw file in R2, runs a diff engine to detect buy/sell/trim events, and triggers a Cloudflare Pages rebuild via deploy hook — all in a single execution with hash-based deduplication to handle stale upstream responses.
Active development of a broader ETF tracking application, expanding on the data pipeline capabilities built in AKREtrack.

Software Developer · Lubbock, TX · Mar 2025 – Present
- Develop Go microservices with Gin, Postgres, Kafka, Kubernetes, Prometheus, and Grafana across account application workflows.
- Built a Golang microservice managing the full account application lifecycle, integrating with three internal microservices and vendor APIs including Twilio (communications), Alloy (identity verification), and DocuSeal (document execution).
- Diagnosed and resolved a callback timing bug where a vendor's webhook fired before their status endpoint had updated — implemented a River queue background worker with configurable retries and backoff to poll for confirmed state changes without blocking the main request path.
- Translate verbal requirements into PRDs, GitLab epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized implementation issues.
- Develop and maintain Next.js / React frontends using shadcn/ui and TanStack Query for data-fetching and server-state management.
